The full cast is set for the West End transfer of Jessica Swale’s Nell Gwynn, starring the previously announced Gemma Arterton in the title role. Greg Haiste, David Rintoul, Anneika Rose, David Sturzaker, Jay Taylor, Sasha Waddell and Sarah Woodward will reprise their performances from the Shakespeare’s Globe premiere. Performances will begin on February 4 at the Apollo Theatre with opening night set for February 12.
Also joining the cast for the play’s West End bow are Michele Dotrice, Michael Garner, Peter McGovern and Nicholas Shaw.
The play charts the rise of an unlikely heroine, from her roots in Coal Yard Alley to her success as Britain’s most celebrated actress, and her hard-won place in the heart of the King. But at a time when women are second-class citizens, can her charm and spirit protect her from the dangers of the court?
The production, directed by Christopher Luscombe, will play a limited engagement through April 30.
