It’s Alexander Hamilton’s 259th (or 261st, depending on who tells your story) birthday, and here’s just one more way to celebrate the Founding Father’s big day. The box office juggernaut Hamilton secured the runner-up spot in this week’s grosses, trailing behind The Lion King. Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical has stayed in the top five since beginning Broadway performances, but typically jumps between third and fifth place. Rounding out the frontrunners were usual suspects Wicked, The Book of Mormon and Aladdin. Despite its high capacity, Noises Off took a dip in revenue. Expect numbers (particularly its average paid attendance) to climb after the starry revival opens on January 14. Two of last year’s box office favorites, An American in Paris and Finding Neverland, also made appearances in the bottom five by capacity—a not-too-uncommon occurrence for fan favorites in the post-holiday winter.
