Emmy nominee Timothy Olyphant will star in the previously announced world premiere of Kenneth Lonergan’s Hold On to Me Darling. Also signing on are Adelaide Clemens, Tony nominee Jonathan Hogan, Jenn Lyon, Keith Nobbs and C.J. Wilson. The off-Broadway production will begin performances on February 24 at Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater.
Olyphant can currently be seen in The Grinder. He received an Emmy nomination in 2011 for his leading performance in Justified. This will mark his return to off-Broadway after twenty years, when he starred in The Santaland Diaries and The Monogamist. Hold On to Me Darling marks Clemens’ off-Broadway debut; she has appeared on screen in The Great Gatsby and Rectify. Hogan’s previous stage credits include a Tony-nominated turn in As Is, as well as Comedians, Otherwise Engaged, and Fifth of July. Lyon most recently appeared on Broadway in Fish in the Dark. Nobbs’ Broadway credits include Lombardi, Bronx Bombers and Lion in Winter. Wilson also appeared in Bronx Bombers on Broadway, as well as The Big Knife, Festen, Henry IV and The Best Man.
The play follows world famous country and western star Strings McCrane (Olyphant), who begins questioning the meaning of his life and what it all adds up to after his mother dies. Determined to abandon his celebrity and career, he moves back to his hometown in Tennessee. It doesn’t go well.
The production, directed by Neil Pepe, will open officially on March 14 and is scheduled to run through April 3. The staging will feature set design by Walt Spangler, costumes by Suttirat Larlarb, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt and sound design by David Van Tiegham.
In other Lonergan news, the upcoming film Manchester By the Sea, which he directed and wrote, has been picked up by Amazon for a traditional theatrical release, following a $10 million deal.
