Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Eighth (Sort Of) Harry Potter Book Sets Release Date
It's looking trickier to conjure up tickets to the new stage play Harry Potter and The Cursed Child Parts I & II than to even Hamilton. However, there is now some solace for fans of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world who've not been able to book seats at London's Palace Theatre. Little Brown is scheduled to publish a special rehearsal edition of the play's script on July 31, with online fansite Pottermore simultaneously releasing the e-book edition. Set 19 years after the initial seven novels, a collector’s version will be published later (on the basis that the production will inevitably change during previews). Starring Jamie Parker, Paul Thornley and Noma Dumezweni, Cursed Child is slated to begin performances in the West End on June 7 and officially open on July 30.
Steven Boyer Tapped for NBC Pilot
Steven Boyer, who starred in Hand to God on Broadway last year, has landed an NBC pilot! Deadline reports that the Tony nominee will appear on The Trail, a spoof of crime documentaries such as Making a Murderer. The show is set to focus on lawyer Josh Simon and his defense team; Boyer will take on the role of his lead investigator, who isn’t the fizziest drink in the fridge...
CBS Selects Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts
Tony winner Tracy Letts’ Superior Donuts, which bowed on Broadway back in 2009, is heading to the small screen. According to Variety, Jermaine Fowler will star in and co-executive produce the comedy pilot for CBS. Penned by Bob Daily, Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, the adaptation, set in a Chicago donut shop, will be directed by James Burrows. And we’re now dreaming of donuts. Superior ones, naturally.
Amazing Grace Cast Album Sets Release Date
Missing the sweet sound of Josh Young, Erin Mackey and Tony winner Chuck Cooper in Amazing Grace? The previously reported DMI Soundtracks cast album will drop in stores on February 26, with digital download pre-orders available on February 12. The musical, which ran at Broadway's Nederlander Theatre last year, is based on the true story behind the beloved song.
Ruthie Ann Miles Wraps on The Americans
Ruthie Ann Miles, who can currently be seen on Broadway in The King and I, has wrapped on the fourth season of The Americans. The Tony winner posted the below photo on Instagram reminding us all to watch the series when it returns to FX on March 16. We can’t wait!
P.S. The previously reported Amazon pilot for The Interestings, just got even more, well, interesting. Broadway fave Corey Cott will appear alongside Gabriel Ebert in the screen adaptation of Meg Wolitzer’s novel. Congratulations, Mr. Cott (but please remember you need to return to Broadway to do The Bandstand)!
