Santino Fontana & Laura Osnes Reunite in New Musical
Santino Fontana and Laura Osnes are joining forces once again on stage! The Cinderella Tony nominees will appear in The Legend of New York in concert on April 18 at Feinstein’s/54 Below. The new tuner from Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham is a Sodom and Gomorrah story set during the 1977 New York City blackout. Directed by John Simpkins, the cast will also include Angela Grovey (Newsies), J. Bernard Calloway (Memphis) and F. Michael Haynie (Wicked), all backed up by the New York Funk-Harmonic, with music direction by Kurt Crowley. Buy tickets here!
Kate Winslet Eyes Broadway
Kate Winslet is coming to Broadway…if her son Joe has anything to do with it! The actress is a Tony short of an EGOT and she was recently asked by Reuters if the Great White Way is next. "Well I suppose it probably is now,” Winslet replied. “And that's more because of my 12-year-old son Joe, who...is just obsessed with records." Maybe Adele could pen her a musical?
Open Auditions for Miss Saigon
This is a great opportunity for those based in the Philippines! They’re holding open auditions for upcoming global productions of Miss Saigon at Manila’s Opera Haus on March 15 and March 16. According to Philstar.com, the hit musical's producing and creative team will fly in from London for the talent search. The upcoming Broadway revival of Miss Saigon is set to be headlined by the two London leads, Eva Noblezada and JonJon Briones. The heat is on!
George Gaynes Dead at 98
George Gaynes, perhaps best known for his screen work in Tootsie and the Police Academy films, along with the 1980s sitcom Punky Brewster, died on February 15 aged 98. The New York Times reports that his death was confirmed by his daughter, Iya Gaynes Falcone Brown. The much-loved character actor made his Broadway debut in 1950 in The Consul; Gaynes' multiple additional Main Stem credits included Out of This World, Wonderful Town, Of Love Remembered and the 1973 production of Gigi.
The Toxic Avenger's New Life
Interesting. After making an impact off-Broadway back in 2009 followed by a U.S. national tour, the stage adaptation of 1984 cult movie The Toxic Avenger will receive its European premiere at the U.K.’s Southwark Playhouse. Featuring a score by Bon Jovi founding member David Bryan and book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro (the team behind Memphis), the show includes an unlikely hero, his beautiful blind girlfriend, a corrupt New Jersey mayor and an unbelievable duet. Directed by Benji Sperring, the production will play a limited engagement April 26 through May 21. We'll keep an eye on this one...
