Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Matt Doyle & Beth Behrs Make a Dent
Matt Doyle and his childhood bestie Beth Behrs will launch Dents, a digital comic web series, beginning in March. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series follows 14-year-old Eleanor, who discovers she has a twin, was born with superhuman powers and becomes a part of an underground society for likeminded super-teens. This marks the first major writing credit for both; Behrs is most known for the series 2 Broke Girls, and Doyle, who last appeared on Broadway in The Book of Mormon, has ample superhero experience as a comic book enthusiast himself and the star of Brooklynite off-Broadway last year. While you wait for Dents on Webtoon, check out Doyle’s new music video for “Moments” below!
LuPone & More Make March 14 a Starry Night
A whole bunch of stars are lined up for a host of galas. Patti LuPone will take part in Clasic Stage Company’s The Ladies Who Sing Sondheim benefit, joining Victoria Clark, Cynthia Erivo, Joaquina Kalukango, Judy Kuhn, Marin Mazzie and Alexandra Silber for a night of performances from the canon of—you guessed it—Stephen Sondheim. The event, hosted and directed by John Doyle, will take place at Alice Tully Hall on March 14. On that same day, stage faves and real-life couple Michael Urie and Ryan Spahn will host the Vineyard Theatre’s annual gala honoring Kathleen Chalfant and publicist Sam Rudy. The starry affair will feature Veanne Cox, Colman Domingo, Sally Field, Santino Fontana,
Ann Harada, Bill Irwin, John Kander, Ellen McLaughlin,
Katryna Neilds, Bill Pullman, Molly Ringwald, Mercedes Ruehl, Stephen Spinella, Maura Tierney and more.
Betty Buckley Heads North for the Week
Our favorite Tony winner-turned-Broadway matchmaker is heading to New England! Direct from Oz, Betty Buckley will head to Boston’s Scullers Jazz Club and Old Saybrook, Connecticut’s The Kate on February 26 and 27, respectively. Audiences can expect some of her musical theater staples and tunes from her multiple albums, including her most recent, Ghostlight.
Margo Seibert & More to Sing Pride & Prejudice
Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are about to get swanky. A concert presentation of Lawrence Rush’s musical adaptation of Pride & Prejudice will head to Feinstein’s/54 Below. Margo Seibert, who made a knockout Broadway debut in Rocky, will lead a cast that also features Les Miz alum Nathaniel Hackmann, Finding Neverland’s Teal Wicks and Will Reynolds, who recently appeared in Daddy Long Legs. Look out for the romantic tuner, directed by Frank Galagno, on March 2.
