Broadway Grosses: Lupita Nyong'o-Led Eclipsed & New Musical Bright Star Kick Spring Season Into High Gear

The spring season is underway as more and more new plays and musicals light up the Theater District. Eclipsed, starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, began performances at the John Golden Theatre on February 23 and played its first week of previews at 97.27% capacity. The Steve Martin and Edie Brickell musical Bright Star kicked off at the Cort Theatre on February 25 and played four performances at 77.24%. While both shows reached a modest gross potential, it’s possible further preview performances and buzz will bring those numbers up higher. Meanwhile, the top five spots on the board were dominated by the usual suspects: Hamilton, The Lion King, The Book of Mormon, Wicked and Aladdin.
