Hamilton standout Daveed Diggs stopped by The Nightly Show to chat with host Larry Wilmore, Robin Thede and Holly Walker about diversity on stage and screen. “The way we make history exciting to learn about is by breaking down the barriers that are already set up between these people,” Diggs, who plays Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette in the blockbuster musical, explained. “We see these people as old white men who we don’t care about. But if you cast them as people you see in your neighborhood, all of the sudden I have a reason to give a damn about George Washington.” Uhm, yeah. If you put a rapping Christopher Jackson in front of us, we’d definitely give a damn about George Washington. Take a look at the panel discussion below, and (at least try to?) catch Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.
