Aladdin enters its third year on Broadway next week, and the Disney musical is still flying high. The perennial box office favorite once again landed in the top five grossing shows last week, and it also appeared in the frontrunners by capacity. Joining Aladdin at the top of the boards by gross were Hamilton, The Lion King, Wicked and The Book of Mormon—no surprises there. Meanwhile, two new critically acclaimed plays are bringing in sizable crowds. Eclipsed, starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, reached 88.68% capacity, while The Humans filled its house to 92.23%. While neither earned noteworthy numbers in terms of gross, the relatively low running costs of plays and size of the theaters (both under 1,000 seats) are important factors to consider.
