Beautiful hunk Chris Peluso and more have been tapped for the previously reported London revival of Show Boat. The transfer of Daniel Evans’ Sheffield Crucible production is scheduled to begin previews on April 9 and will officially open on April 25 at the New London Theatre.
Joining Peluso (Miss Saigon) as Gaylord Ravenal in the cast will be Malcolm Sinclair (Quartermaine’s Terms) as Captain Andy Hawks, and original Sheffield cast members Gina Beck (Wicked) as Magnolia Hawks, Broadway alum Lucy Briers (Wolf Hall) as Parthy, Rebecca Trehearn (We Will Rock You) as Julie La Verne, Emmanuel Kojo (Scottsboro Boys) as Joe, Sandra Marvin (City of Angels) as Queenie, Alex Young (I Can’t Sing) as Ellie May Chipley and Danny Collins (Matthew Bourne's The Car Man) as Frank Schultz.
With music by Jerome Kern and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and based on the novel Show Boat by Edna Ferber, the tuner follows the lives of three generations of performers, stagehands and dock workers as their theater, the Cotton Blossom, floats along the Mississippi River. The musical was first performed on Broadway in 1927 and has been revived on the Great White Way and by opera companies numerous times since then. The tuner features such classic showtunes as "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man," "Ol' Man River," "Make Believe" and “You Are Love.”
Rounding out the company will be John Coates, Adam Dutton, Kit Esuruoso, Nolan Frederick, Linford Johnson, Javar La’Trail Parker, Kate Milner-Evans, Maria Omakinwa, Ryan Pidgen, Mykal Rand, Leo Roberts, Tosh Wanogho-Maud, Christina Bennington, Victoria Hinde, Linda John-Pierre and Simbi Akande, Georgie Ashford, Laura Darton, Joshua Da Costa, Dale Evans and Tom Partridge.
