Off-Broadway’s Atlantic Theater Company has commissioned six new plays. Among the established and upcoming playwrights selected are The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time Tony winner Simon Stephens and Grand Concourse’s Heidi Schreck.
Stephens will collaborate with composer Mark Eitzel on a play with music. The two previously worked together on Song from Far Away directed by Ivo van Hove (The Crucible) at the Young Vic, and Marine Parade.
Schreck is commissioned through Atlantic’s association with the Kenyon Institute at Kenyon College. In addition to Grand Concourse, her plays include Creature, There Are No More Big Secrets and The Consultant.
Additional playwrights to receive commissions are Qui Nguyen, whose play Vietgone is part of Manhattan Theatre Club’s upcoming season and Jennifer Haley (The Nether), who will collaborate with director Jeremy Herrin. Additionally, Jocelyn Bioh and Paola Lázaro will take part in Atlantic's Launch Commission for early career playwrights.
