The 2016 Olivier Awards ceremony took place on April 3 at the Royal Opera House, honoring the best in London's theater. The Tony-winning Kinky Boots garnered the night's top prize, winning Best New Musical, although it was Gypsy that led the pack of winners with the most awards this year for a single production (four), including Best Actress in a Musical for Imelda Staunton and Best Musical Revival. Hangmen picked up Best Play and Dame Judi Dench won her record eighth award—she has now received more Olivier Awards for acting than any other performer. Plus Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of a musical heading to the West End in 2017 that you might have heard of called Hamilton, collected a trophy along with Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman for Outstanding Achievement in Music for In the Heights. The event next year will be held on April 9 and in a new venue: the Royal Albert Hall.
