Mykelti Williamson and Russell Hornsby, who both appeared in the 2010 revival of Fences, will reprise their performances for the previously announced film adaptation of the August Wilson play, reports Deadline. They join their former Broadway co-stars Denzel Washington (who will direct) and Viola Davis.
Washington is still slated to produce Wilson’s plays as HBO features over the next ten years. Fences, however, is not included in this deal and will instead be produced by Scott Rudin and Todd Black.
Williamson, who will play Gabriel, has appeared on screen in Forrest Gump, Boomtown, 24 and Justified. Hornsby will take on the role of Lyons; he stars in the NBC series Grimm; his additional credits include Lincoln Heights and Get Rich or Die Tryin’. Both made their Broadway debuts in the revival.
The cast will also feature Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers) as Cory and Saniyya Sidney (Roots) as Raynell. Shooting will begin later this month; the project is aiming to be considered for this awards season.
