Sara Bareilles Pens Anti-Cellphone Ditty for Waitress
Sara Bareilles didn’t just write the score to Broadway’s Waitress—she also came up with a song for the production’s turn-off-your-mobile-device warning. “I wrote it in an evening and recorded it at home,” the singer-songwriter told the AP. “It seems to have done the trick, although the errant cellphone still makes me crazy." Based on Bareilles' tune “Cassiopeia,” check it out on Soundcloud below. No word yet on whether Patti Lupone will be recording a little pre-show something for War Paint.
Laura Michelle Kelly to Perform With Jeremy Jordan
Believe! Laura Michelle Kelly is set to reunite with her Boston Finding Neverland co-star Jeremy Jordan on May 30 at 54 Below. The Broadway leading lady will present us with a revealing evening of song and stories, sharing her journey of coming to New York City and making it her home, with Jordan making an appearance. Directed by Corey Mach, with musical direction by Joshua Stephan Kartes, Kelly will also perform on May 2 alongside special guest star Dez Duron, who rose to stardom on The Voice. Buy tickets here.
Lesli Margherita & Tom Hewitt Tapped for Hunchback
Broadway favorites Lesli Margherita and Tom Hewitt will take on the roles of Esmeralda and Frollo, respectively, in the Los Angeles premiere of The Huchback of Notre Dame. Alan Menken (Aladdin) and Stephen Schwartz’s (Wicked) musical will play as part of La Mirada Theatre’s 2016-17 season. Directed by Glenn Casale, the retelling of Victor Hugo’s classic is scheduled to begin performances on September 16.
Artwork Revealed for Josh Groban's Great Comet
"Key" artwork has been unveiled, below, for Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812. Headlined by Josh Groban in his long-awaited Broadway debut, the production will also star Denée Benton. Dave Malloy's new tuner is set to blaze into the Imperial Theatre in the first week of October, officially opening on November 14.
