The Color Purple’s Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo, along with Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton), Christian Borle (Something Rotten!), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Fully Committed), Alex Brightman (School of Rock) and Laura Benanti (She Loves Me) are just some of the Main Stem favorites tapped for this year’s Easter Bonnet Competition. The event celebrates six weeks of fundraising efforts by company members of Broadway, off-Broadway and touring productions for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and will take place on April 25 and April 26 at the Minskoff Theatre. And yes Easter was weeks ago but when isn’t a bonnet appropriate attire?
Harry Melling Tapped for King Lear
One door may have closed but another has swiftly opened for Harry Potter star Harry Melling. After news came that his current gig, London’s Hand to God, would end its run prematurely, comes the announcement that he’ll star in King Lear at the Old Vic. According to the Daily Mail, Melling will play Gloucester’s son Edgar; two-time Oscar winner Glenda Jackson is set to take on the title role. The production is scheduled to begin previews on October 25, after the Broadway-bound world premiere of Groundhog Day has vacated the venue.
Hamilton's Prince Tribute
After the extraordinary tribute to Prince led by Jennifer Hudson and Cynthia Erivo at The Color Purple on April 21, the Hamilton cast paid their own respects over at the Richard Rodgers.
