We are whistling a happy tune! May 3 marks the first day the new King of Siam Daniel Dae Kim and Broadway queen Marin Mazzie shall dance in the stunning Lincoln Center revival of The King and I. Ken Watanabe earned a Tony nod for his Broadway debut in the royal role, and Kelli O'Hara nabbed a Tony for her luminous performance as Anna Leonowens; the pair played their final performance on April 17. Analisa Leaming and Jose Llana portrayed the leading characters until May 1.
Mazzie makes a welcome return to Broadway—she is in remission after a battle with ovarian cancer. She last appeared on the Great White Way in Bullets Over Broadway, and earned Tony nominations for her performances in Kiss Me Kate, Ragtime and Passion. Her additional credits include Next to Normal opposite Danieley, Spamalot and Man of La Mancha on Broadway, as well as Carrie off-Broadway.
Broadway fresh face Daniel Dae Kim is best known for his role as Jin-Soo Kwon in the smash hit television series Lost. His other screen credits include the Divergent series of films, Spider-Man 2, Crash and Hawaii Five-0. The King and I marks his Great White Way debut.
