The 2016 Tony Award nominations were announced on May 3, and while we’re thrilled for all the nominees, we wish the world was wide enough for all of our favorites to be recognized. We asked fans which non-nomination they were most miffed to see. The results are in, and here’s what you had to say! Broadway.com congratulates all the shows, stars, directors, designers and more—nominated or not—who made the Great White Way shine for yet another year. And if your favorite didn’t get a nomination, you still might be able to vote for them in the Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards. Show those nominators how it’s done!
1. Tuck Everlasting for Best Musical—11%
While fans’ love for the whimsical new tuner may be eternal, the Nominating Committee didn’t exactly join the parade. While the Casey Nicholaw-helmed show missed out on nods for Best Musical and its performers, Tuck was not entirely shut out. Gregg Barnes was recognized for his dazzling costumes. After all—how can you say no to an evil banana?
2. Audra McDonald for Best Actress in a Musical—9%
After Audra McDonald’s record-breaking six wins and two additional nominations, this one was tough to grasp. She’s a Tony darling! It was a banner year for leading ladies, and unfortunately not everyone can get nominated. We imagine the Shuffle Along star will be just fine sitting this one out with her loving family (and six spinning trophies) in Eggfartopia.
3. American Psycho for Best Musical—8%
Why would anyone piss off Patrick Bateman? Maybe it was outdated business cards; maybe it was an altercation at Tunnel. Whatever happened, the blood-soaked tuner came up short on nomination day. However, like Tuck, Psycho managed to pick up design nods: Best Lighting for Justin Townsend and Best Scenic Design for Es Devlin and Finn Ross.
