Jennifer Hudson pushed da button in The Color Purple for the final time on May 8, and the numbers for her last week are too beautiful for words (but we’ll try anyways). The musical revival played to its highest capacity all year, and at just shy of $1 million, took in its highest gross since the New Year's holiday week. Meanwhile, recent Tony-nominated musicals Shuffle Along, Or, the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed and Waitress took two of the five top slots by capacity. Another new musical that fared well in the nominations took the runner up spot and grossed over 137% of its potential: Hamilton.
