David Bowie's Lazarus, which had a sold out run off-Broadway at the end of last year, is heading to the U.K. Directed by 2016 Tony nominee Ivo van Hove and created by Bowie and Once book writer Enda Walsh, the Daily Mail reports that the production will play a temporary theater in the Kings Cross Theatre complex, opening in the fall of this year or the spring of 2017. It is hoped that Michael C. Hall, who headlined the show at New York Theatre Workshop, will reprise his role.
Inspired by Walter Tevis’ 1963 novel The Man Who Fell to Earth, Lazarus follows Thomas Newton (Hall), the alcoholic alien-turned-inventor portrayed by Bowie in the 1976 screen adaptation. The show features original tunes by Bowie, as well as new arrangements of his known hits.
Hall's Broadway credits include Hedwig, The Realistic Joneses, Cabaret and Chicago. He is best known for playing serial killer Dexter Morgan in Showtime's Dexter, earning one Golden Globe Award from five nominations and six Emmy Award nods. Other screen credits include HBO's Six Feet Under and the films Cold in July and Kill Your Darlings.
The New York cast also included Cristin Milioti, Michael Esper, Krystina Alabado, Sophia Anne Caruso, Nicholas Christopher, Lynn Craig, Bobby Moreno, Krista Pioppi, Charlie Pollock and Brynn Williams.
