Aaron Tveit Bets on Broadway
Your Broadway boyfriend Aaron Tveit, Josh Grisetti, Steve Martin, Joe Mantello, Patrick Page, Tony Yazbeck and more went all in on May 16 at the second annual edition of Broadway Bets. After what was described as a "spirited evening" of Texas Hold ‘em poker at Sardi's, the Great White Way’s official poker tournament raised a massive $247,800 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, well above last year’s final tally of $137,200.
Fiasco's Into the Woods to Land in London
Wish granted! After an acclaimed run off-Broadway, Fiasco’s reinvention of Into the Woods will head to London’s Menier Chocolate Factory this summer. Using ten actors, multiple musical instruments and boundless imagination, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s classic is set to play a limited engagement July 1 through September 17. Opening night is scheduled for July 12.
Off-B'way Alliance All About Exit Strategy
The off-Broadway Alliance has announced its 2016 award winners. Exit Strategy and Futurity took home the prize for Best New Play and Musical, respectively. Meanwhile, Best Play Revival went to The School for Scandal and Best Musical Revival to The Robber Bridegroom; James Lecesne won for Best Solo Performance in The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey.
Susie Krajsa Receives League Award
Congratulations to Susie Krajsa, who has been honored with a 2016 League Award, which marks excellence and achievements for touring Broadway. Executive Vice President of Presenting for Broadway.com’s sister company, Broadway Across America (BAA), she will receive the Samuel J. L’Hommedieu Award for Outstanding Achievement in Presenter Management. Krajsa oversees BAA's Presenting business, working with 10 regional offices that, in turn, manage the network of 40 markets where BAA has a presence.
Shakespeare Will Make You Swoon
Where there's a will, there's a way! TNT has picked up Will, the previously reported pilot following the wild 20s of William Shakespeare, to series. Starring Brit newcomer Laurie Davidson as the Bard, the project comes from long-time Baz Luhrmann collaborator Craig Pearce; the pilot was helmed by Shekhar Kapur, whose directing credits include Elizabeth.
