Here's a quick roundup of stories you may have missed today.
Spend Xmas with Megan Hilty
It's that will be the most wonderful time of the year! Broadway bombshell Megan Hilty is currently recording a Christmas album. Although it may seem a while away from the holidays, it's no surprise that the 2016 Tony nominee is grabbing studio time while she can. As well as appearing alongside your Broadway boyfriend Aaron Tveit in CBS' BrainDead, Hilty has been enlisted as one of the leads for a TV Land pilot of The First Wives Club, a remake of the 1996 hit movie. We look forward to hearing her seasonal serenading!
At Home with Jonathan Groff
Want to spend some time at home with Jonathan Groff? Well, you can now keep him on your coffee table, at least. A signed limited edition (just 500 copies!) photo biography of the upcoming Looking movie is on sale via First Third Books; the film will premiere on HBO on July 23.
Tyne Daly Tapped for Spider-Man: Homecoming
Congratulations to Tony and Emmy winner Tyne Daly! The Broadway vet has been tapped for Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming from Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. Deadline reports that there's no word yet on who she'll be playing, however she will be starring opposite former Billy Elliot Tom Holland (not Hollander) as Spidey, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Michael Keaton as The Vulture.
Casting Set for Tom Hollander's Travesties
Across the pond, further casting has been announced for the previously reported buzzy Menier Chocolate Factory revival of Tom Stoppard’s Travesties, headlined by Tom Hollander. Directed by Patrick Marber, the cast will also include Clare Foster as Cecily, Freddie Fox as Tristan Tzara, Forbes Masson as Lenin, Peter McDonald as James Joyce, Amy Morgan as Gwendolen and Sarah Quist as Nadya. The comedy of art, love and revolution will run September 22 through November 19 and we’re keeping a close eye on it—the Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple, led by Tony winner Cynthia Erivo, started out life at the venue.
Danielle Brooks is a Phenomenal Woman
Speaking of The Color Purple...Danielle Brooks has to be the busiest woman in showbiz! Along with picking up a Tony nod for her powerful performance in the hit tuner and starring in Orange Is the New Black, she somehow managed to fit in time to shoot this short film. Check out below the Elizabeth Masucci-helmed Phenomenal Woman; a dramatization of the poem by Dr. Maya Angelou, the title certainly fits the incredible Brooks!
