Zendaya Circling Hugh Jackman Musical
Zendaya is eyeing teaming up with Tony winner Hugh Jackman in the Fox musical The Greatest Showman. She joins the previously reported 2016 Tony nominee Michelle Williams and Zac Efron in negotiations to board the long-in-the-works P.T. Barnum biopic. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Williams would appear as Jackman’s love interest, with Efron as Barnum’s right hand man and Zendaya as a trapeze artist who Efron’s character flips out over.
Gawn Grainger Steps in for John Hurt in The Entertainer
Broadway alum Gawn Grainger (The Misanthrope) will play Billy Rice in the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company’s upcoming production of The Entertainer. He replaces John Hurt in the show, who had to withdraw on the advice of his doctors. Previews are scheduled to begin at the West End’s Garrick Theatre on August 20; opening night is set for August 30.
WTF's An American Daughter Switches it Up
"Scheduling conflicts" have caused some switcheroos for Wendy Wasserstein’s An American Daughter at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. Diane Davis will step in for Kate Walsh, with Kerry Bishe replacing Grace Gummer and Jason Danieley in for Darren Pettie. Directed by Evan Cabnet, the 1997 play about the cost one woman pays when she dares to have it all, is scheduled to run on the Main Stage August 3 through August 21.
