Molly Ringwald Set for Terms of Endearment Off-Broadway
Stage and screen favorite Molly Ringwald has been tapped to headline the American premiere of Dan Gordon’s stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning movie Terms of Endearment. The Pretty in Pink star and Broadway alum will take on the role of Aurora Greenway; Shirley MacLaine garnered an Oscar in 1983 for her portrayal of the character. Directed by Michael Parva and based on the book by Larry McMurtry and the screenplay by James L. Brooks, the show traces the complicated relationship between a challenging mother and her equally stubborn daughter. The off-Broadway production is scheduled to play a limited engagement October 29 through December 11 at 59E59 Theaters; further casting will be announced later.
Gotham's Robin Lord Taylor to Lead Rabbit
Robin Lord Taylor, who stars as Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) on FOX’s hit series Gotham, will take the leap in White Rabbit Red Rabbit off-Broadway. Taylor will headline the production on October 31. The New York premiere of Nassim Soleimanpour’s solo show, which involves a different actor every performance seeing the script for the first time just before they go on stage, is playing Monday nights at the Westside Theatre.
Alan Cumming & CBS Team Up Again
Alan Cumming is developing a new drama series, Dr. Death, with CBS. The Tony winner will headline and executive produce the show, which is adapted from a new James Patterson book. According to Deadline, Dr. Death will focus on an ex-CIA operative who is now a talented professor and writer who ends up helping an NYPD investigation into a serial killer. Cumming previously starred on The Good Wife for the network.
Complete Cast Announced for A Bronx Tale The Musical
Hudson Loverro (Kinky Boots National tour) will play Young Calogero, with Athan Sporek (Les Misérables) as the Young Calogero alternate in A Bronx Tale The Musical. The pair complete the cast in the new tuner, which stars the previously reported Nick Cordero, Richard H. Blake, Bobby Conte Thornton and Broadway.com vlogger Ariana DeBose.
