Sadie Sink Set for Netflix's Stranger Things
Broadway alum Sadie Sink (The Audience, Annie) has landed a series regular role on Stranger Things. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’ll play tomboy Max in Netflix's buzzy 1980s-set science fiction-horror drama. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the cast includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Matthew Modine and more.
Suzan-Lori Parks Play Extends Off-B'way
Suzan-Lori Parks’ The Death of the Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World has extended one week off-Broadway and will now run through December 11. Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz and starring Daniel J. Watts and more, the production is scheduled to begin performances on October 25. Opening night is set for November 13 at Signature Theatre’s The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.
Apply for a Lloyd Webber Training Scholarship
The American Theatre Wing’s Andrew Lloyd Webber Initiative has launched its second program, the Training Scholarships. Public middle and high school students who demonstrate talent and ability in the theater arts, but have a lack of resources to receive high level training prior to college, are eligible to apply. Anna K. Jacobs Wins $10,000 Prize
Australian born, Brooklyn-based, composer and lyricist Anna K. Jacobs has been selected to receive the 2016 Billie Burke Ziegfeld Award. The honor, inspired by the lack of female composers being produced on Broadway today, will provide Jacobs with a grant of $10,000 and a year of professional mentorship from luminaries including Tony-winning producer Barbara Whitman. The prize is set to be handed out during a reception on November 7 at the New Amsterdam Theatre.
