Tony Yazbeck & Laura Osnes Set for Crazy for You
Tony Yazbeck (Finding Neverland) and the Broadway-bound Laura Osnes (Bandstand) will headline a 25th anniversary concert version of Gershwin’s musical comedy Crazy for You. The Tony nominees are set to co-star as Bobby Child and Polly Baker, respectively, in the one-night-only event at Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall on February 19, 2017. Susan Stroman has been tapped to recreate her choreography from the original production and direct the show, which follows a banker who dreams of dancing for Zangler’s Follies.
Alex Timbers Circling Disney's Cruella
Alex Timbers may no longer be working with Disney on the Frozen stage adaptation, however the two-time Tony nominee is in talks with the mouse house to helm Cruella, Deadline reports. Broadway alum Emma Stone is to headline the live-action film, which follows the young Cruella De Vil. Producers include Marc Platt (Wicked, La La Land, Ben Platt’s Dad) and they hope to start production early next year.
Michael Mayer & Tom Kitt Head to Japan
After collaborating on American Idiot: The Musical and Everyday Rapture, Michael Mayer and Tom Kitt will reunite for the world premiere of a new production of As You Like It. Shakespeare’s comedy, helmed by Mayer, with music by Kitt and choreographed by Lorin Latarro, will star Reon Yuzuki (Prince of Broadway) and Julian Cihi (Doctor Zhivago). The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement in Tokyo from January 4, 2017 through February 4. Next stop New York?
