From "No Good Deed" to "You Oughta Know"! Casting has not yet been announced for the recently reported Jagged Little Pill musical, but Tony winner Idina Menzel will lead a reading of the Alanis Morissette tuner in New York, a representative for American Repertory Theater has confirmed. Menzel is not likely to star in the Cambridge, MA production in May 2018, though, as she will be leading Joshua Harmon's new play Skintight during that time.
The five-time Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner is currently on tour supporting her latest solo record release, idina. She last appeared on Broadway in If/Then; she went on to reprise her Tony-nominated performance as Liz/Beth on tour. Her other stage credits include her triumphant Tony-winning turn as Elphaba in Wicked, her Tony-nominated performance in Rent and appearances in Aida, See What I Wanna See, The Wild Party and more. Her stage credits include voicing the role of Elsa in the Oscar-winning animated film Frozen—and taking over the world with the film's chart-topping hit "Let It Go"—as well as roles on TV's Glee, Lifetime's Beaches remake and Enchanted.
Jagged Little Pill, which received a workshop in 2014, has Diane Paulus at its helm and is expected to include many numbers from Morissette's album. Tom Kitt (If/Then) will provide musical arrangements and orchestrations.
The album Jagged Little Pill was a huge commercial and critical success, selling over 33 million copies worldwide. The album produced six singles, including the Grammy-nominated "Ironic." Morissette won the Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Her single "You Oughta Know" won two Grammys, Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Song, and was also nominated for Song of the Year.
