Nominations are here for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's 2020 Golden Globe Awards! A talented group of theater alums are among the list of creatives set to be recognized at the ceremony on January 5, 2020 on NBC.
Nominees of note to stage fans include Tony winners Ben Platt for his performance in Netflix's The Politician, Billy Porter for his performance in FX's Pose and Cynthia Erivo for her performance on the big screen in Harriet. Erivo received an additional nomination alongside Joshuah Brian Campbell for creating the song "Stand Up" from the Focus Features film; the talented Best Original Song—Motion Picture category also includes Andrew Lloyd Webber and Taylor Swift's Cats movie collaboration "Beautiful Ghosts" and "Into the Unknown" from Frozen 2 by Kristin Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Other theater-related nominees include Michelle Williams and Sam Rockwell for Fosse/Verdon (which is also garnered a nomination for Best Limited Series), Renée Zellweger for Judy, Beanie Feldstein (Hello, Dolly!) for Booksmart, Adam Driver (Burn This) for Marriage Story, Jonathan Pryce (The Height of the Storm) for The Two Popes, Brian Cox (The Great Society) for Succession and Annette Bening (All My Sons) for The Report.
Additional Great White Way alums nominated include Christina Applegate (Sweet Charity) for Dead to Me, Al Pacino (China Doll) for The Irishman, Daniel Craig (Betrayal) for Knives Out, Tom Hanks (Lucky Guy) for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Nicole Kidman (The Blue Room) for Big Little Lies and Cate Blanchett (The Present) for Where'd You Go, Bernadette. Tony-winning director Sam Mendes (The Ferryman) also received a Golden Globe nomination for directing the film 1917.
Broadway alum-packed series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and The Politician received nominations for Best Television Series—Musical or Comedy. Frozen 2 and The Lion King landed nominations for Best Motion Picture—Animated.
