Second Stage Theater's upcoming Broadway revival of Richard Greenberg's Tony-winning play Take Me Out has added Tyler Lansing Weaks and Eduardo Ramos to the cast. They will take over the roles of Jason Chenier and Rodriguez from the previously announced Will Harrison and Joél Pérez, both of whom have exited the production due to scheduling conflicts.
Weaks was previously seen on Broadway in the 2013 revival of Macbeth; his screen credits include The Good Wife, Elementary and Frat Star. Ramos will make Broadway debut in Take Me Out; he has appeared on-screen in Papi Papi, The Deuce and Red Dead Redemption II.
Weaks and Ramos join a previously announced cast that includes Jesse Williams as Darren Lemming, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mason Marzac, Patrick J. Adams as Kippy Sunderstorm, Michael Oberholtzer as Shane Mungitt, Julian Cihi as Takeshi Kawabata, Brandon J. Dirden as Davey Battle, Carl Lundstedt as Toddy Koovitz and Ken Marks as Skipper.
Take Me Out follows Lemming (Williams), star center fielder for the Empires, who reveals he is gay and faces a barrage of long-held unspoken prejudices. Facing some hostile teammates and fraught friendships, he is forced to contend with the challenges of being a gay person of color within the confines of a classic American institution. As the Empires struggle to rally toward a championship season, the players and their fans begin to question tradition, their loyalties and the price of victory.
Scott Ellis will direct the production, scheduled to begin previews on April 2 and officially open on April 23 at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
