The Nanny is headed to the stage. The popular '90s sitcom is in development as a new musical for Broadway, producers Brian and Scott Zeilinger announced today.
The musical will feature a book penned by series creators Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson, with music by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rachel Bloom and Adam Schlesinger and lyrics by Bloom. Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) will direct.
Partly inspired by Drescher's own life growing up in Queens, The Nanny's 146 episodes aired from 1993 to 1999, starring Drescher and earning 12 Emmy nominations over six seasons. The television show has been aired in over 90 countries and more than 30 languages.
A production timeline for the Broadway-bound musical, additional creative team members and casting will be announced at a later date. Till then, look back at The Nanny's memorable theme song (penned by Ann Hampton Callaway and sung with her sister Liz Callaway) below.
