The smash-hit musical School of Rock will give its last performance at London's Gillian Lynne Theatre on March 1. The production began previews on October 24, 2016 and officially opened on November 14.
Directed by Laurence Connor and choreographed by JoAnn Hunter, School of Rock features music from the hit 2003 movie, as well as new music written by Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater, with a book by Julian Fellowes. The film was penned by Mike White, directed by Richard Linklater and starred Jack Black as wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. When he discovers his students’ musical talents, he enlists his fifth-graders to form a rock group and conquer the Battle of the Bands.
The current West End cast is headed by Noel Sullivan as Dewey Finn, with Laura Tebbutt as Rosalie Mullins, Mark Anderson as Ned Schneebly and Rebecca LaChance as Patty. Jake Sharp is the alternate for the role of Dewey Finn.
The Broadway production of School of Rock opened in December 2015 at the Winter Garden Theatre, starring Alex Brightman as Dewey Finn. The production concluded its run in January 2019.
As recently announced, next up at the Gillian Lynne Theatre will be another musical from Lloyd Webber, his new take on Cinderella, set to begin performances in September. That production will also feature direction by Connor and choreography by Hunter.
