The new play My Name Is Lucy Barton, based on Elizabeth Strout's bestselling novel, has been recorded as an audiobook by Tony nominee Laura Linney, headliner of the current Broadway production. The audiobook will be released on February 4 by Penguin Random House Audio, which is a co-producer on the play.
Currently in previews at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, the solo play, adapted by Rona Munro, follows the title character, who, unsteady after an operation, awakens to find her mother sitting at the foot of her bed. She hasn't seen her in years, and her visit brings Lucy back to her desperate rural childhood and her escape to New York. As she begins to find herself as a writer, she is still gripped by the urgent complexities of family life.
My Name Is Lucy Barton will officially open on January 15 and continue for a limited engagement through March 1.
