Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre has been selected to present the world premiere production of Broadway Vacation, The Musical, a new stage show drawn from characters in the popular Vacation film franchise. Donna Feore will direct and choreograph the previously announced Broadway-aimed musical, set to appear this fall at the West Coast venue.
"We could not be more thrilled to create the world premiere of this joyfully riotous story at The 5th," said Producing Artistic Director Bill Berry. "I can't wait to begin our 2020-21 season with a bang and for Seattle's incredibly smart and savvy audiences to once again play an important role in the development of a new piece of the musical theater canon."
Producer Ken Davenport added, "I couldn't think of a better place for the Griswolds to start their journey to Broadway than the 5th Avenue Theatre. Can't wait to throw our bags in the family truckster and head to Seattle!"
With a book, music and lyrics by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen (The Other Josh Cohen), Broadway Vacation follows the Griswolds, a family coping with a series of disasters on a cross-country road trip. The production will feature music supervision and arrangements by Glen Kelly and music direction by Meg Zervoulis, with costume design by Emily Rebholz.
A recent reading of the musical boasted a cast that included Kerry Butler, Will Swenson, John Ellison Conlee, Deven May, Nic Ryan, John Behlmann, Sarah Bishop, Jordan Gelber, Asmeret Ghebremichael, Joanna Glushak, Jeff Hiller, Jaygee Macapugay, Tiffany Mann, Cheech Manohar, Livvy Marcus, Christopher Martinez, Sarah-Anne Martinez and Elliot Mattox.
Casting and dates for the 5th Avenue Theatre production will be announced at a later date.
