Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, the songwriters behind the 2013 Broadway musical First Date, are developing a new muscal comedy series for Amazon, according to Deadline. Titled Nobody's Princess, the series is described as "an irreverent musical comedy that reimagines the stories of four classic fairy tale princesses for today's generation." The show will be written by Nicole Delaney, with original tunes by Zachary and Weiner; James Corden is among the series' producers. We can't wait to find out more!
Gavin Creel Lends His Golden Vocals to "Something Wonderful" from The King and I
Gavin Creel is the latest star to sing the music of Rodgers & Hammerstein as part of the R&H Goes Pop! series. The silk-voiced Hello, Dolly! Tony winner recently took to the recording studio to sing the moving number "Something Wonderful" from The King and I as his contribution to the series. "Rodgers & Hammerstein are the grandfathers of our art form," said Creel. "To me, there is no greater melody in musical theater than 'Something Wonderful.' Jon Cryer to Perform Solo Play So That Happened Off-Broadway
Jon Cryer, the Emmy-winning star of Two and a Half Men who has Broadway roots, will return to the stage this spring to perform his solo play So That Happened. The new work will appear at off-Broadway's Cherry Lane Theatre on May 1, 7, 9, 12 and 16, as part of the series True Stories, to be produced by his mom, Obie-winning writer-actress Gretchen Cryer. In So That Happened, Jon Cryer will explore the peculiar combination of heart, talent and wisdom that it takes to survive not just the bad times in a notoriously fickle industry but even the good times. In addition to his memorable turn on Two and a Half Men, Jon Cryer appeared on Broadway earlier in his career in Brighton Beach Memoirs and Torch Song Trilogy and off-Broadway in 900 Oneonta and Carnal Knowledge.
