Stage-and-screen star Kelsey Grammer will take on the role of Lord Brockhurst in an upcoming Toronto staging of Sandy Wilson's delightful 1953 tuner The Boy Friend. The production, a transfer from London's Menier Chocolate Factory, will be performed from March 29 to May 3 at Canada's Princess of Wales Theatre.
Grammer earned a Tony nomination for his turn as Georges in the 2010 Broadway revival of La Cage aux Folles. His London stage credits include a performance as Edward Bloom in Andrew Lippa's Big Fish musical. He earned multiple Emmy Awards for his iconic turn in the title role of the long-running series Frasier.
Wilson's all-singing all-dancing love letter to 1920s musical comedies is set in Madame Dubonnet's finishing school in the south of France, where perfect young ladies burst into song at the least provocation, and forbidden boyfriends are forever popping through the French windows to sing and dance with them.
Director Matthew White leads a creative team that also includes choreographer Bill Deamer, musical director Simon Beck, scenic designer Paul Farnsworth, lighting designer Paul Anderson, sound designer Gregory Clarke and orchestrator David Cullen.
Additional casting for The Boy Friend will be announced soon.
