The Berkshires' Barrington Stage Company will debut the new dance musical A Crossing during its 2020 summer season. Tony nominee Joshua Bergasse will direct and choreograph the world premiere production, scheduled to run from August 5 through September 6 at the Pittsfield, MA theater.
Featuring a book by Mark St. Germain (Becoming Dr. Ruth) and a score by Zoe Sarnak (The Lonely Few), A Crossing follows the lives of a group of migrants crossing the Mexican-American border.
Bergasse earned acclaim and a Tony nomination for his choreography of the 2015 Broadway revival of On the Town, which began its life at Barrington Stage. His choreography credits also include Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Gigi, Sweet Charity and TV's Smash.
A recent workshop of A Crossing featured a cast that included Glauco Araujo, Christopher Alvarado Agosto, Alexia Belrose, Croix Dileno, Imanol Fuentes, Maxel Garcia, Danielle Gonzalaz-Quevedo, Christopher Isolano, Anjali Kanter, Rebecca Murillo, Omar Nieves, Elizabeth Ritacco, Magdelena Rodriguez and Rebekah Santiago. Casting for the upcoming world premiere will be announced soon.
In addition to A Crossing, Barrington Stage has announced four productions added its previously announced slate of summer productions, including The Great Leap (May 27-June 13), Anna in the Tropics (June 18-July 11), Chester Bailey (July 16-August 7) and The Supadupa Kid (July 30-August 9).
