Christy Altomare is headed back to the stage in a new musical. The original Anastasia star and former Broadway.com vlogger will play Susan, wife of legendary rocker Dion, in the new musical The Wanderer at Paper Mill Playhouse. The previously announced production, directed by Kenneth Ferrone, will run from May 28 through June 28 at the Millburn, NJ theater.
Altomare won acclaim and legions of fans when she took on Anastasia's title role, which she played for the musical's full Broadway run from 2017-2019. Altomare's other stage credits include a Broadway turn in Mamma Mia!, a touring performance in Spring Awakening and an off-Broadway role in Carrie. She was named Broadway.com's 2017 Star of the Year.
Altomare joins a previously announced Wanderer cast that includes Michael Wartella as Dion and Joey McIntyre as Johnny.
Penned by Charles Messina, The Wanderer is described as the musical journey of Dion DiMucci (Wartella), a troubled young man turned teenage heartthrob and rock-and-roll icon told in intimate and no-holds-barred detail. Dion's lifelong battle with addiction shed a stark light on the darker side of fame and success. The new musical tackles both subjects head-on, set to the iconic sound of an incomparable era in American music. Dion's hit songs include "Runaround Sue," "I Wonder Why," "A Teenager in Love" and "The Wanderer."
