Peter Friedman, the veteran actor who earned a Tony nomination for his turn as Tateh in the 1998 original Broadway production of Ragtime, will reprise his performance in the upcoming Actors Fund reunion benefit. The previously announced one-night concert, dedicated to the memory of the late original Ragtime cast member Marin Mazzie, will be held at the Minskoff Theatre on April 27. Fellow original stars Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell will reprise their performances as Sarah and Coalhouse Walker Jr.
In addition to his celebrated turn in Ragtime, Friedman's Broadway résumé includes turns in The Heidi Chronicles, Twelve Angry Men, Execution of Justice, Piaf, The Tenth Man, The Rules of the Game, Love for Love and Holiday. He has been seen off-Broadway in The Treasurer, Fly by Night and The Open House.
Featuring a Tony-winning book by Terrence McNally (adapted from E.L. Doctorow's novel of the same name), Ragtime features a Tony-winning score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. The musical introduces the American experience at the turn of the 20th century through the eyes of three different facets of society in New York City.
Additional casting for the Ragtime concert will be announced at a later date.
