Rebecca Taichman, the multi-talented director who won a 2017 Tony Award for directing Paula Vogel's Tony-nominated drama Indecent, will reprise her work for a European-premiere staging set to arrive in London this spring. The production will begin previews on March 13 and officially open on March 23 at the Menier Chocolate Factory.
Indecent explores the impact of Sholem Asch's 1923 play God of Vengeance, a controversial work that has divided audiences since its appearance on Broadway, with some considering it an important piece of Jewish culture and others viewing it as libel.
Indecent marked the Broadway debut of Taichman, a busy director who will return to Broadway this spring as helmer of the new musical Sing Street, currently receiving a world premiere run at New York Theatre Workshop. Her other directorial credits include Time and the Conways, This Flat Earth, How to Transcend a Happy Marriage, The Scene and School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play.
Vogel is perhaps most known for her Pulitzer-winning drama How I Learned to Drive, which will receive its first Broadway staging this spring. Her other plays include A Civil War Christmas, Hot 'n' Throbbing, The Baltimore Waltz, The Long Christmas Ride Home, Desdemona, And Baby Makes Seven and The Mineola Twins.
Casting for the Menier's Indecent will be announced at a later date. The production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through May 9.
