Isaac Powell heads back into the new Broadway revival of West Side Story on January 17. Powell, who plays the lead role of Tony, had been on leave from the production following a knee injury that sidelined him in December, pushing the revival's opening night back two weeks to February 20. The role of Tony was played by Jordan Dobson while Powell recovered.
Following the incident with Powell, actor Ben Cook, who played Riff, also suffered an injury, causing him to leave the production. Dharon E. Jones, who originated the role of Action in the revival, has taken over as Riff.
This new staging of West Side Story, which began previews at the Broadway Theatre on December 10, features direction by Tony winner Ivo van Hove and new choreography by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
