Emojiland, off-Broadway's newest confection, opened on January 19 at the Duke on 42nd Street theater. The new "textistential" musical tells the story of a band of emojis—living, obviously, inside a smartphone—who must reckon with a software update that brings a host of newcomers. A surprising battle for identity and status ensues, forcing a society made up of obvious emotions to confront complicated issues of self-worth and compassion. Emojiland stars Ann Harada, Lesli Margherita, Josh Lamon, Lucas Steele, Max Crumm, Dwelvan David, Heather Makalani and Tanisha Moore. The show is written by Keith Harrison and Laura Schein with direction by Thomas Caruso. Take a look at the cast posing on opening night and click through to see them in costume as emojis.
