New Musical Comedy Emojiland to Release Original Cast Album
The fan-favorite new musical comedy Emojiland will be preserved as an original cast recording, set to be released digitally on February 28, Broadway Records announced today. Featuring a book, music and lyrics by Keith Harrison and Laura Schein, Emojiland features a talent-packed cast that includes Lesli Margherita, Josh Lamon, Lucas Steele, George Abud, Ann Harada, Max Crumm, Jacob Dickey and more. The debut run, currently p\laying off-Broadway's Duke on 42nd Street, was recently extended to March 19.
Stephen King & John Mellencamp's Ghost Brothers of Darkland County Musical Set for Goodspeed
Connecticut's Goodspeed Musicals has announced a pair of shows set to headline its new Worklight Series, featuring developmental runs of in-the-works musicals. The 2020 season will launch with the new musical Johnny & the Devil’s Box (May 27-June 7), featuring book and score by Douglas Waterbury-Tieman, and conclude with a rework of Stephen King and John Mellencamp's previously performed Ghost Brothers of Darkland County musical (October 21-November 8). Both developmental productions will play Goodspeed's Terris Theatre in Chester, CT.
Michael Urie to Direct Ryan Spahn's Inspired by True Events at NY Stage & Film
Theater couple Michael Urie and Ryan Spahn are collaborating on a new project. Urie, currently appearing on Broadway in Grand Horizons, will direct a presentation of Spahn's new play Inspired by True Events as part of the 2020 winter season of New York Stage & Film. Based on an actual incident at a community theater, the play reminds audiences that the show must go on—no matter what terrifying and harrowing event has occurred. Kate Baldwin & Georgia Stitt Release Single "Something That You Do"
Craft Recordings and Concord Theatricals have announced the release of the new digital single "Something That You Do"—performed by two-time Tony nominee Kate Baldwin—the first song from her concert and forthcoming third solo album How Did You Get This Number? The song was written, arranged, played and co-produced by Georgia Stitt (Sweet Charity), whose work is represented by Concord Theatricals. The song was recorded, mixed and co-produced by Jeffrey Lesser. It can be downloaded or streamed via all major digital music services here.
The Lightning Thief's Kristin Stokes to Make Solo Concert Debut at Feinstein's/54 Below
Kristin Stokes, the standout star most recently seen as Annabeth in the Broadway musical The Lightning Thief, will take the stage of midtown's Feinstein's/54 Below with a debut concert on February 10 at 9:30pm. Titled Solo, the show will feature Stokes performing the music of Paul Simon, Rufus Wainwright, Dave Malloy and Stephen Schwartz, among others. The concert will feature music direction by Wiley DeWeese. Special guests will be announced soon.
