The original cast recording of the Tony-winning musical Hadestown took home the 2020 Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album on January 26. The album beat out the recordings of Ain't Too Proud—The Life and Times of The Temptations, Moulin Rouge! The Musical, Oklahoma! and The Music of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
The win for Hadestown is shared by the musical's Tony-winning songwriter Anaïs Mitchell as well as stars Reeve Carney, André De Shields, Amber Gray, Eva Noblezada and Patrick Page, and co-producers Mara Isaacs, David Lai and Todd Sickafoose.
Hadestown is currently running at Broadway's Walter Kerr Theatre, where it opened on April 17, 2019.
Also of note on the theater front is the first Grammy win for Sara Bareilles (Tony-nominated songwriter of Waitress). Upon her eighth nomination, Bareilles won a Grammy in the category of Best American Roots Performance for "Saint Honesty."
