New York stage veteran Alexandra Silber will head the cast of the upcoming European debut of Paula Vogel's Tony-nominated drama Indecent. The previously announced production, directed by Tony winner Rebecca Taichman, will begin previews on March 13 and officially open on March 23 at London's Menier Chocolate Factory.
Silber, who will take on the role of Dorothee (which was played on Broadway by Katrina Lenk), has a résumé that spans Broadway, off-Broadway and London theater. Her credits include Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, Master Class, Einstein's Dreams, The Woman in White, Carousel and an Outer Critics Circle Award-nominated turn in Arlington.
The cast of the Menier's Indecent will also include Molly Osborne, Cory English, Beverley Klein, Finbar Lynch, Peter Polycarpou, Joseph Timms, Merlin Shepherd, Anna Lowenstein and Josh Middleton.
Indecent explores the impact of Sholem Asch's 1923 play God of Vengeance, a controversial work that has divided audiences since its appearance on Broadway, with some considering it an important piece of Jewish culture and others viewing it as libel.
The London production is scheduled to play a limited engagement through May 9.
