Stage-and-screen stars Ralph Fiennes and Emma Stone could be teaming up on-screen in the new Matilda film, according to The Daily Mail. The award-winning actors are in talks to play Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey, respectively, in the previously announced movie musical based on the Tony-nominated Broadway hit.
The Matilda film would mark the first musical project for Fiennes, who is a two-time Oscar nominee for Schindler's List and The English Patient. He won a Tony Award for his title turn in a revival of Hamlet and received an additional nomination for Faith Healer.
Stone won an Oscar for her performance in the movie musical La La Land; she was also nominated for turns in Birdman and The Favourite. She made her Broadway debut taking over the role of Sally Bowles in a remount of the Tony-winning Cabaret revival.
The roles of Miss Trunchbull and Miss Honey were originated on Broadway by Bertie Carvel and Lauren Ward, both of whom earned Tony nominations for their performances.
