John Behlmann, an actor, and LJ Wright, a Broadway dresser, announced their engagement on January 31. The pair met in 2018 during the pre-Broadway run of the musical comedy Tootsie.
"When we did the out-of-town tryout in Chicago, LJ was one of the New York crew members who traveled with the show," Behlmann told Broadway.com. "She dressed Santino in Chicago. After Tootsie in Chicago, LJ went on to open Ain't Too Proud on Broadway (where she still works), and once I opened Tootsie we were lucky to be just a few doors down from each other for most of 2019."
Among other commonalities, Behlmann and Wright have rich résumés in New York theater. In addition to his hilarious turn as Max Van Horn in Tootsie, Behlmann has been seen on stage in Significant Other, Journey's End, Pretty Filthy, Wild Animals You Should Know and The 39 Steps. Wright, meanwhile, has lent her talents as a dresser to Broadway's Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, Aladdin, The Prom, Cirque du Soleil Paramour and Dames at Sea.
"We've both waited a long time to find the right person, and we've each had our share of tough times on the road to get there," said Behlmann. "But without where we were, we couldn't be where we are, so we're grateful for everything that led each of us to the other."
