Javier Muñoz to Star in North American Premiere of A Sign of the Times
Javier Muñoz is headed back to the stage. The original Hamilton cast member, most recently seen off-Broadway in The New Englanders, will headline the new play A Sign of the Times at off-Broadway's Theater 511 starting next month. The drama, written and directed by Stephen Lloyd Helper, will begin previews on February 17 and officially open on February 27. In A Sign of the Times, a man becomes a traffic controller outside a construction site in an effort to catch his breath and simplify his life; soon he invokes Shakespeare, Einstein and more visionaries on his emotional odyssey. The production will run for a limited engagement through April 4.
Kelli O'Hara & More Set for Upcoming Performance of The Courtroom
Three Tony winners have signed on to take part in next week's return performance of The Courtroom, a re-enactment of deportation proceedings featuring text arranged from real court transcripts by Tony nominee Arian Moayed. Kelli O'Hara, Jayne Houdyshell and Jennifer Ehle will appear in the performance, set for February 12 at 7:00pm at off-Broadway's Lucille Lortel Theatre. They will be joined by Happy Anderson, Michael Braun, Hanna Cheek, Michael Bryan French, Mick Hilgers and Kristin Villanueva. The popular theatrical event will also receive an encore performance on March 9 at 7:00pm at uptown's Symphony Space; casting for that evening will be announced soon.
Come From Away to Open in Sydney Australia
Come From Away is sticking around Down Under. On the heels of an Australian premiere at Melbourne's Comedy Theatre, the musical will arrive at Sydney's State Theatre on August 1, with an official opening night scheduled for August 8. Christopher Ashley will repeat his Tony-winning work as the musical's director. Come From Away has been a hit with audiences since opening on Broadway in March 2017; a national tour is currently underway.
Starry Joseph Concert Announces Full Creative Team
Manhattan Concert Productions has announced the complete creative team for the upcoming 50th anniversary staging of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The previously announced production, directed by Michael Arden, will play Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall on February 17 at 8:00pm. Joining Arden and musical director Stephen Oremus on the creative team will be choreographer James Alsop, scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, lighting designer Travis Hagenbuch, costume designer Travis Hagenbuch and sound designer Dave Horowitz. The cast will be headed by Noah Galvin as Joseph, with Alex Newell, Eden Espinosa and Jessica Vosk sharing the role of the Narrator.
Full Cast Set for Rachel Tucker-Led Pirate Queen Benefit
Full casting is here for the upcoming star-packed benefit performance of the 2007 musical The Pirate Queen. The previously announced event will be held at the London Coliseum on February 23; proceeds will benefit the nonprofit Leukaemia U.K. Final cast members include Earl Carpenter (Les Misérables) as Dubhdara and Daniel Boys (Falsettos) as Lord Bingham. They join the previously announced Rachel Tucker as Grace O'Malley, Jai McDowall as Tiernan, Matthew Pagan as Donal, Hannah Waddingham as Queen Elizabeth, Steph Parry as Majella and Emma Norman as Evleen. This production will mark the musical's U.K. debut.
