The McKittrick Hotel, home to Sleep No More, has announced an extension to the off-Broadway staging of The Woman in Black. Originally announced to play a limited engagement through March 8, the production will now end its run on April 19 in the hotel's hidden pub The Club Car.
Directed by Robin Herford and adapted by Stephen Mallatratt from Susan Hill's ghost story, The Woman in Black tells the story of a young lawyer who stumbles upon a small town with a grave secret.
One of the longest-running plays in the history of the English-speaking theater, originally presented as a three-week run in the theater bar at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough in 1987, The Woman in Black moved to the West End two years later, where it has been enthralling audiences ever since.
Numerous national and international tours have followed, but this site-specific reimagining for the McKittrick marks the first time audiences have experienced it as originally staged, in a pub.
The production is headlined by actors Ben Porter and David Acton, both of whom starred in the London production. The creative team includes scenic designer Michael Holt, lighting designer Anshuman Bhatia and sound designers Rod Mead and Sebastian Frost.
