This has been a great week for fans of Lin-Manuel Miranda. Following the recent news of a Hamilton film, Deadline has reported the production of a new movie musical executive produced by the three-time Tony winner titled Neptune Frost.
The sci-fi musical "follows an intersex African hacker, a coltan miner and the virtual marvel born as a result of their union." Joining Miranda on the producing team are actor Ezra Miller (The Flash), Tony nominee Stephen Hendel (After Midnight) and Broadway's Saul Williams (Holler If Ya Hear Me), the latter of whom is writing and directing the film.
The new movie musical is among a slew of projects that have taken the screen courtesy of Miranda, including the recent Emmy-nominated Fosse/Verdon and this spring's film adaptation of his Tony-winning musical In the Heights. The Hamilton film, which will be cut from a 2016 filmed performance featuring the original cast, will arrive in cinemas next fall.
Further details on Neptune Frost, including casting and a release date, are still to be announced.
