Olivier Award-winning actor Clive Rowe has been announced to take on the role of Eddie Souther in the upcoming London remount of the musical Sister Act. The recently extended production will run from July 21 through August 30 at the Eventim Apollo.
Rowe won the Olivier for his showstopping performance as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls at the National Theatre; he was also nominated for his turn as Enoch Snow in the National's Carousel. His West End and touring credits also include Ladykillers, Chicago, Sweet Charity, The Wind in The Willows and Me and My Girl.
As previously announced, the London production will star Whoopi Goldberg reprising her 1992 film turn as Deloris Van Cartier, with Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) as Mother Superior. The revised take on the 2011 Tony-nominated musical will envision Deloris as older than was originally intended.
In advance of the London run, Sister Act will play a U.K. and Ireland tour, featuring Rowe as Eddie and Brenda Edwards as Deloris. Casting for the role of Mother Superior on the tour, as well as the full company, will be announced soon.
