Lauren Yee's exploration of memory and music under the Khmer Rouge, Cambodian Rock Band, opens on February 24 at The Signature Center. Starring Courtney Reed, Francis Jue and Joe Ngo with direction by Chay Yew, Cambodian Rock Band tells the story of a genocide survivor who returns to Cambodia as his daughter prepares to prosecute one of its war criminals. Featuring live music, Yee's play reclaims the lost musical culture of Cambodia—once almost destroyed by the dictatorial rule of the Khmer Rouge—and celebrates life after survival.
